About The Work
This image is a still from Hudson’s video Carmen, which played with the soundtrack from Georges Bizet’s opera at the Project Room at Dinter Fine Arts in 2010. Hudson says of the work: “With Carmen I was trying to make a painting with photography. I have a weakness for red paintings, so I made a sculpture that looks to me like a painting, and then I played around with it for this piece. I had the idea of legs coming out of red ruffles/brush strokes. I wanted to make the obvious in a funny and odd way, which makes it un-obvious. I used the music from Carmen for this reason.”
